My word for the year 2014, was plan. Was it a successful year? I guess there are many ways to define success. And depending on my state of mind and my mood, I could argue my year for and against the definition of success. I will say this. 2014 was good to me!
Here is a recap of things that have stood out for me in 2014. (The below questions were found on Into Mind, via Belinda’s blog Making Mountains.)
If you had to describe your 2014 in 3 words, what would they be?
Trust. Self-Control. Plan
Which of your personal qualities turned out to be the most helpful this year?
My obsessive nature. When I get an idea, for example when I got the idea to create a Vintage Mickey Mouse nursery for Oliver, I went all out and for months I was consumed with Mickey Mouse. K probably still
hates has a slights dislike for Mickey. This year the concept of banting was introduced to me. Sharon shared her journey beautifully like many I was inspired. I did what I do best and became obsessed with banting – reading and listening to video material. Following some inspiring doctors, researchers and amazing bloggers who are going through the same struggles I am. It’s a blog post on it’s own, really.
If someone wrote a book about your life in 2014, what kind of genre would it be? A comedy, love story, drama, film noir or something else?
A documentary? Perhaps a science experiment?
What was the most important lesson you learnt in 2014?
I am stronger and more capable than I thought I am – not by myself, but by grace. Also, I learned how to trust and how to forgive.
Which mental block(s) did you overcome?
Sugar / food addiction.
What little things did you most enjoy during your day-to-day life?
Pilates. Running. Lying in bed with my husband, especially while taking afternoon naps. Cream. Merlot.
What cool things did you create this year?
I have created a really awesome 2015 home management binder. Personalised and specific to my/ our needs as a family.
Was there anything you did for the very first time in your life this year?
I started running. And then I stopped. I need to start running again.
What major goal did you lay the foundations for?
This is my favourite question and a key milestone for 2014. 2014 wasn’t a year of profound breakthroughs for me. 2o14 was a foundation year. I’ve changed some many mindsets and mental blocks I had. I have worked really hard without the major breakthroughs / victories. I have built character and developed. And for me, this is success defined.
What was the best gift you received?
Chutney. Probably the most expensive and stubborn gift as well. But we love her!
What topics did you most enjoy learning about?
- In my personal life – banting, ketosis, how the body functions on a fat adaptive diet. Running.
- My studies – organisational development and how that works. Fascinates and drives me.
- Work wise – automation of systems in the organisation.
We learn through experience, but that alone isn’t enough – we need to reflect on the experiences to gain maximum effectiveness from it. How did 2014 treat you? Are you excited for the new year to start?
Happy New Year! May it scare us just a little. May we cultivate a sense of gratitude and may we strive to be the best versions of ourselves we can be.
