My word for 2015 is “Gratitude”. The journey hasn’t quite matched the expectation at all. At the beginning of the year I though living a life of gratitude meant everything would be pretty and airy and fun. Instead I came face to face with mountains and learned the true meaning of gratitude.
Gratitude in health
Oliver was very sick this year. I experienced some intense moments of fear. I learned some lessons in faith. I learned how to let go and let God! The unknown is always scary, but I am so grateful I don’t have to walk this life alone. Family, friends and faith in my Father has carried me through!
Gratitude in love
Kobus and I have had break-throughs in our marriage. We need much more wisdom and grace! Fact remains, we can’t be the best we can be when we are hurting inside ourselves. It is a journey – one I am willing to take.
Gratitude in priorities
We’ve had to make some tough choices in the year. The choices we made helped define our priorities. It sounds obvious when you pen it down, but sometimes in life the lines are blurred and we get things messed up. But when circumstances forces you into a corner, you get to a place where all you can do it evaluate and prioritize. And sometimes getting to this point is all you need to appreciate the things that are important in your life.
Gratitude & graduations
In 2015 all the hard work of the past eight years paid off. I walked across a stage and collected a pretty important piece of paper. In 2015 I graduated!
Gratitude in wholeness
I have always been a bit of a hippy. This year I have really become aware of wholeness, a more holistic view of health and wellness and happiness. I believe that wellness and wholeness is a journey that starts in your heart.
Gratitude in growing up
Logan is an incredible boy! Strong-willed, intelligent, accepts a challenge and sometime he himself can be the challenge. He is growing up before my eyes! Some days I wonder if I have done enough as a parent, bent him enough, disciplined enough. I know he has a sweet, sweet heart. He is kind and compassionate and willing to help. I am so thankful for this little boy!
Gratitude in emotions
Roller coaster rides of emotions. High highs, silly-snorting laughter. Laughter that brings tears. Tears of anger. Tears of frustration. Fear and worry. I am grateful for the down, it reminds me of the ups. I hold on to the ups while going through the downs.
Gratitude in movement
Man I love moment! I wish I could say it has paid off an I have reached some amazing goal weigh etc. I haven’t. But I still love moment! Capoeira. Stretching. Pilates.
Running. Walking & Hiking. When there is too little moment, I become cranky. I need movement like I need air.
Gratitude & Travel
My heart beats for places and people. I got to travel to Cape Town for a very brief visit with some very special friends. Traveling refreshes my soul.
Gratitude in remembering
I think as females we often measure our success or failure based on how we look, how we feel, the successes and failures or our kids, husband etc. This year and especially the past couple of months I have been reminded that I am valuable. I am worth so much more then what I see in the mirror, so much more than the successes & failures in life. That is worth celebrating!
Gratitude & People
Power in Pairs, it takes a village to raise a child – call it what you would like. We need each other. This year I needed to accept help from friends and family, I am fiercely independent, or I try to be. So accepting help was like admitting I couldn’t do something on my own. It is a good place to be, because I cannot do it on my own. I am grateful for that.
Along with this very simple lesson I learned that it is okay for me to open up my heart to the people around me. To give of me. I might get hurt, I will probably get hurt but at least I will live along the way.
I have created a gratitude pinterest board to fill with words of inspiration, reminders and mementos. If you are having a hectic day, consider going through the board and simply taking a moment to savour up the many blessings we have in life!
