This morning at church, as we sang Brian Johnson’s song, ‘We will not be Shaken’, God revealed a snip bit of my current situation through the words of the song. This morning for example, I was reminded of what it means for me personally to be unshaken.
What does it mean to be unshaken?
Without become very technical about it, unshaken means, that I will stand firm. It means I won’t fall. I will stand victorious at the end.
Often for me personally, I end up settling for less, for whatever reason. Sometimes, or should I say, most of the time, because I am impatient. Sometimes it is lack of faith that He won’t really come through for me. Perhaps even insecurity or lack of self-worth – I am not worthy of being loved. I don’t deserve someone who really cares about me or understands me. Being truly happy is too much to ask for.
These are all lies. Half-truths to deceive me.
Truth is, I don’t deserve it… But God has by grace given me all that and so much more. I am victorious, I am empowered by grace, I have been given Life and I am here to live abundantly. I don’t have to ooze confidence, because the source of Life, lives in me and want me to be who He created me to be. And I’ve been made to be pretty amazing.
This by definition changes the meaning of ‘Unshaken’ quite a bit. It changes my identify from a person who is holding on and hoping for the best. To someone who can live boldly, with hope and confidence in our God.
All those against Him will fall
Our God is stronger
He can do all things
No higher name we can call
For Jesus is greater
We can do all things
– We will not be Shaken, Brian Johnson, Bethel Music
If you haven’t heard the song, do yourself a favour and listen to it. And let’s commit to standing up and living a life confident in who we are, followers of Christ, made in His likeness.
